Windows 11 – Requirements

Windows 11 is out and ready for business. We have been running it on all our compatible computers all week, and nothing that stands out as a step backwards. Few things to consider, if you are keen to install.

  1. Microsoft will tell you if your hardware is compatible through Windows Update. The specification that is challenging some, is the TPM 2.0 chip required inside the computer. This is used to encrypt data and validate the data drive and motherboard are undisturbed. Sadly even some of our workshop machines are without and will be stuck on Windows 10.
  2. You might just need to enable TPM 2.0 in your BIOS, if you have a modern gaming PC or enthusiast machine, as those are often disabled by default. If your machine was over £700 and less than 2 years old, your odds are decent you will be compatible.
  3. It’s not really that different, just looks more modern. Unlike a few previous OS updates, there are no killer features, but more about the user experience. Gamers might be the exception, with DirectX 12 support, but other than us lot, not sure any gamers read these posts :).
  4. If you believe you have compatible hardware, you might still need to wait a few weeks before Microsoft has certified the hardware and is ready to support Windows 11. Windows Update will keep you posted on this front.
